Message to the Canadian People for Canada Day
Press Statement
John Kerry
Secretary of State
Washington, DC
June 27, 2013
On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, it is my pleasure to congratulate the people of Canada as you celebrate the 146th anniversary of your Confederation on July 1.
The close bonds of friendship between the United States and Canada extend far beyond our borders. Our shared history, vast cultural exchange, and thriving trade relationship have allowed our respective nations to build a dynamic alliance in the Western Hemisphere and beyond.
Our shared cultural, political, and economic values strengthen our commitment to serve and protect the people of our two countries.
I was proud to welcome Foreign Minister John Baird to Washington for my first bilateral meeting as Secretary, underscoring our close bond.
The United States is proud to celebrate Canada’s successes and accomplishments. As you recognize this occasion with friends, family, and countrymen, the United States looks forward to forging an even brighter future together with our partner and ally.
I wish all Canadians a safe and happy Canada Day celebration.
