On the Occasion of Finland's Independence Day
Press Statement
John Kerry
Secretary of State
Washington, DC
December 4, 2013
On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I congratulate the people of Finland as you celebrate your Independence Day on December 6.
Finland and the United States share a rich history and a common set of principles and ideals.
We are proud to have welcomed more than 25,000 Finnish guests to our newly renovated embassy this past year.
Together, we are advancing education, prosperity, and human rights worldwide. Our shared values of democracy, respect for human rights, and the rule of law make Finland and the United States natural partners in these important endeavors.
As you celebrate your independence with family and friends, the United States stands with you as a steadfast partner and friend.
I wish all Finnish people continued peace and prosperity in the coming year.
