WASHINGTON, June 20, 2013 - All four active services met or exceeded their numerical accession goals for fiscal year 2013 through April, Defense Department officials announced yesterday.
Here are the numbers for the active force for the first seven months of the fiscal year:
-- Army: 39,707 accessions, 101 percent of its goal of 39,370;
-- Navy: 20,825 accessions, 100 percent of its goal of 20,825;
-- Marine Corps: 15,073 accessions, 100 percent of its goal of 15,034;
-- Air Force: 16,537 accessions, 100 percent of its goal of 16,537.
The Army, Air Force, and Marine Corps exhibited strong retention numbers, officials said. The Navy has strong retention numbers in the mid-career and career categories, they added, and its achievement of 86 percent in the initial category is a result of reduced accessions from four to six years ago.
Five of the six reserve components met or exceeded their numerical accession goals for the fiscal year through April. While the Army Reserve met its April goals, officials said, it remains 1,466 accessions short of its fiscal year goal.
Here are the reserve component numbers:
-- Army National Guard: 30,442 accessions, 104 percent of its goal of 29,296;
-- Army Reserve: 15,734 accessions, 91 percent of its goal of 17,200;
-- Navy Reserve: 3,151 accessions, 100 percent of its goal of 3,151;
-- Marine Corps Reserve: 5,133 accessions, 101 percent of its goal of 5,084;
-- Air National Guard: 5,842 accessions, 100 percent of its goal of 5,842;
-- Air Force Reserve: 4,251 accessions, 104 percent of its goal of 4,069.
All reserve components have met their attrition goals, officials said, noting that the availability of this data lags accession statistics by a month.
