On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I congratulate the people of the Federated States of Micronesia as you commemorate your independence on November 3.
The United States and the Federated States of Micronesia have long enjoyed a close relationship, working together on issues such as the protection of fragile marine habitats, sustainable economic development, and fostering peace and stability in the region.
I especially want to thank the citizens of your country who serve in the U.S. Armed Forces for the sacrifices they and their families make.
I look forward to continuing our joint efforts across a broad range of environmental, social, economic, and security issues in the coming years.
The United States is committed to peace and prosperity for the Federated States of Micronesia and the region our two countries call home, and we join you in the spirit of our continuing friendship and cooperation.
I send all the people of the Federated States of Micronesia my best wishes for a year of continued progress and prosperity.
